Ancient ancestor of mammals discovered in Tasmania

The remains of on ancient ancestor of mammals have been discovered on the Tasman peninsula.

The dicynodont was around the size of bull with tusks and a horny beak. The herbivorous reptile is a distant ancestor of mammals, including humans.

The fossil is 250 million years old, and is only the second record found in Australia of that age.
