The application of radio currents can help reduce the level of blood pressure in patients with severe hypertension, according to new research.
The new technique, named percutaneous renal sympathetic denervation, disrupts the nerves surrounding the kidney that direct the brain and kidneys to increase blood pressure.
Participants in Australia and Europe experienced a reduction in blood pressure over a six month trial period, which was sustained throughout the entire three year trial.
Heart disease is the leading cause of death in Australia.
