African clawed frogs in California harbour a deadly fungal infection that is destroying the global amphibian population, researchers have found.
This pathogen, known as Batrachochytrium dendrobatis, has led to the decline or extinction of over 200 amphibian species worldwide.
It is transmitted through water and causes skin thickening, electrolyte imbalance and brain swelling.
