People are more likely to condemn the bad behaviour of others when they sense someone else may be watching, according to a study from the Universities of Sydney, London and Pennsylvania.
Researchers tested people according to how they reacted when confronted with the ideas of faking a resume and keeping money from a lost wallet. Participants who were told of the scenario and given an an accompanying card with a picture of eyes on it, were found to believe that they were under surveillance, and therefore were more likely to be honest.
