A study from the University of Canberra has found that young people aged 15-24 are leaving the Murray-Darling Basin at a much higher rate than other parts of regional Australia.
The study found the basin area experienced a 10% drop in young people, compared to 6% for other parts of regional Australia.
Factors for the internal migration include floods, droughts, the high dollar and low commodity prices putting pressure on farming communities.
