New sugar protects against heart disease

A new kind of sugar could help prevent heart disease. The sugar includes selenium and protects the heart by scavenging highly reactive chemicals, known as hypohalous acids.

Hypahalous acids can cause tissue damage and can damage amino acids in human plasma.
