No-show neutrinos force rethink of cosmic ray origins

An Antarctic observatory studying gamma ray bursts (GRBs) has failed to detect neutrino emissions, possibly ruling out the theory that cosmic rays are produced in GRBs.

Physicists believe that neutrino emissions accompany cosmic ray production. In a study of 300 GRBs observed over a two year period, though, the IceCube Neutrino Observatory in Antarctica failed to detect any evidence of neutrinos.
