Umer Hussain focuses on the intersection of race, religion, and gender in sports and eSports.

Specifically, he's interested in the issues and challenges faced by the various Muslim communities (e.g., Muslim women and Muslim refugees) within and beyond the Muslim world. Furthermore, via research, Hussain’s goal is not only to highlight the key challenges, but to also provide solutions to enhance marginalized communities’ sports participation.
