My primary research focuses on the political economy of the extractives sector in Sub-Saharan Africa through a temporal lens. In particular, I focus on the hydrocarbon sector in East Africa, and the battery metals sector in Southern Africa. My PhD focused on the temporalities of the hydrocarbon sector in Tanzania, with a particular focus on Resource Nationalism, Local Content and the wider temporalities found in the Tanzanian hydrocarbon sector. Alongside these focuses, I also have research experience and interests in the political economy of agriculture, agro-industrialisation, and agricultural value chains in Southern and Eastern Africa.
My work is largely interdisciplinary in scope, primarily drawing upon political geography and political economy approaches, with a focus on the politics of time/temporalities to further understanding of the politics of extraction and development.
