I am a research scientist developing devices at the interface of nanophotonics, biosensing, soft materials, and mobile health.
Over the years, my research has spanned biomedical engineering, implantable devices, nanofabrication of metamaterials, and quantum optics.
Currently I my work is focused in two primary directions:
1) Unconventional Fabrication of Nanoantennas for Metamaterials and Plasmonics
- Developed a new rapid prototyping technique for large-area fabrication of nano-antenna arrays
combining both bottom-up and top-down techniques
- Emphasis on versatility and scalability
- Developed design software and design rules unique to the method that enable anyone to rapidly design and fabricate new structures.
- Currently leading a team of 6 to further develop this technology in a variety of applications
2) A Universal Electrochemical Reader for Telemedicine and Mobile Health for Resource-Limited Applications
- Developed a low-cost, hand-held electrochemical reader for analyzing both commercial and paper-based test strips for blood or urine and detecting contamination in water supply.
- Device enables data to be communicated over ANY mobile phone on ANY network (including the low-end phones common in the developing world)
- Currently partnered with a point-of-care start-up company to develop a commercial product.
