Professor, the McKinnon Institute for Political Leadership, Monash University

Professor Anne Tiernan is head of research and Professor of Political Leadership at the McKinnon Institute for Political Leadership, based at Monash University.

Prior to that she was Dean (Engagement) in the Business School and a Professor of Politics and Government at Griffith University.

Dr Tiernan's research focuses on the work of governing. Her scholarly interests include: Australian politics and governance, policy advice, executive studies, policy capacity, federalism and intergovernmental coordination. She has written extensively on the political-administrative interface, caretaker conventions, governmental transitions and the work of policy advising.

She has written extensively on the political–administrative interface, governmental transitions, and policy advising, including in six books, articles in national and international journals, and the recently published Oxford Handbook of Australian Politics, of which she is co-editor. Anne is a National Fellow of the Institute of Public Administration Australia, and a Fellow of the Australia and New Zealand School of Government (ANZSOG).
