Douglas Schulz

I am currently a lecturer in Sociology and Criminology at the University of Bradford. Prior to this, I was a Research Fellow - also at the University of Bradford - and taught at Leeds Beckett University and the University of Bradford International College (UBIC).

My research interests focus around identity and popular music. I am particularly interested in exploring how heavy metal identities are expressed throughout the course of everyday life and how heavy metal, as a style of music, is an important resource for fostering a sense of belonging. More recently, I have gained an interest in body modification - in particular the American traditional tattooing style.
