I'm a former Canadian Armed Forces naval officer, teacher, and government manager who blew the whistle at Transport Canada in 2006. The issue pertained to mismanagement and corruption in marine transportation security, where I was Chief of the regulatory unit. Since then I've become an advocate for whistleblowers and whistleblowing, and am a senior fellow at the Toronto Metropolitan University Centre for Free Expression Whistleblowing Initiative. In addition to providing consulting services, I'm currently an adjunct professor at Carleton University. I have published several pieces in newspapers and in one journal, co-authored a book chapter on whistleblowing, and am awaiting publication of another in an upcoming text.
