Ingrid L M Huygens

Treaty educator, Māori & Indigenous Studies, University of Waikato

As a child of Dutch immigrants to New Zealand, I was aware of British colonial racism from an early age. My research focuses on processes of change for culturally dominant group such as Pākehā in New Zealand. My activist work is in decolonisation with Pākehā and other non-indigenous communities. I am national coordinator of the Tangata Tiriti - Treaty People educaton programme for non-indigenous New Zealanders, and provide peer support for academics and activists involved in decolonisation work.
