John Street

I graduated in Politics from the University of Warwick in 1975 and went on to do a DPhil at Nuffield College, Oxford, and then to Research Fellowship at Nuffield, before taking up a post at the University of East Anglia. I am a Fellow of the Academy of Social Sciences in the UK.

My research and teaching has concentrated on the relationship between politics, media and culture. Among the books I have published are: Media, Politics and Democracy (3rd edition); Music and Politics; and (with Sanna Inthorn and Martin Scott) From Entertainment to Citizenship: the politics of popular culture. For the last two years, I have led an AHRC project called 'Our Subversive Voice: the history and politics of the English protest song'. My other grants have included a Nuffield Foundation award to study the politics of arts prizes.

I am a member of the editorial group of journal Popular Music, and for several years reviewed popular music concerts for The Times.
