Research Fellow in Urban Ecology, Northumbria University, Newcastle

Mark is an urban ecologist researching the patterns and drivers of biodiversity and ecosystem services in cities. His PhD explored the social and ecological factors that influence bee and bird diversity in private gardens in Leeds, UK. This work led to an interest in how we can incentivise householders, communities and local authorities to manage cities more sympathetically for wildlife.

Since his PhD, Mark has worked on a wide range of research topics in the UK and beyond, including projects on urban pollinators, carbon capture in urban brownfield land and the impact of robotics on urban ecosystems.
