Meaghan Shoemaker

Meaghan is a PhD candidate in the department of Political Studies at Queen’s University and R.S McLaughlin Graduate Fellow (2016). She received her Master of Arts degree in Political Studies from Queen’s University in 2016, which focused on what factors influenced the Canadian government and Canadian Armed Forces to be more inclusive of women, and how these factors influenced the integration of women throughout the military lifecycle.

Meaghan also holds two Research Assistantships. She is currently the coordinator for a five-year project focusing on the gendered experiences of veteran transition, as well as a contractor for Calian with the Department of National Defence at the Canadian Defence Academy in Kingston, Ontario.

In 2017 Meaghan received a grant from the Department of National Defence’s Defence Engagement Program to organize a one-day workshop on veteran transition and to develop and host a pilot mentorship program for transitioning women veterans.
