Sebastiana Kalula is a physician specialist in Geriatric Medicine at University of Cape Town and Groote Schuur Hospital. She is the director of the Institute of Ageing in Africa (IAA) at the University of Cape Town, and the director of the International Longevity Centre ‒ South Africa (ILCSA). After medical training in Zambia, she specialised in General and Geriatric Medicine in the United Kingdom. She holds an MPhil degree in Epidemiology and a PhD from the University of Cape Town. She is a fellow of the Royal College of Physicians (UK) and a member of the African Research on Ageing Network (AFRAN).. Apart from her clinical service and teaching responsibilities, she manages a focused and expanding research program on functioning and clinical health care at the IAA, and directs ILCSA’s research program. Her current research interests are falls in older persons, physical and cognitive functioning, and quality of care for older persons
