Steven Hatch

After completing residency and infectious diseases fellowship, Hatch's career initially centered around clinical and basic immunology research projects on dengue fever. He collaborated with researchers from Latin America as well as Thailand, publishing articles in such journals as Journal of Infectious Diseases.

Since mid-2012, his focus has shifted to infectious disease clinical practice with a major emphasis on both undergraduate and graduate medical education. He is currently the Program Director for the ID fellowship at UMass, and is core faculty for the Internal Medicine residency.

In September 2014 he became involved in the international effort to quell the Ebola outbreak in West Africa, working for the International Medical Corps as a staff physician at their Ebola Treatment Unit in Bong County, Liberia. He returned to Liberia to help restore medical infrastructure throughout 2015, and continues to work there on improving medical research infrastructure and graduate medical training.

His career goals include continuing working in sub-Saharan Africa; teaching students, residents, and fellows; writing about the practice and theory of medicine; and of course caring for patients.
