Sven Teske

Dr Sven Teske is an Associate Professor and Research Director at the Institute for Sustainable Futures, University of Technology Sydney/Australia with a research focus on energy decarbonisation pathways for countries, regions, urban environments, and specific industry sectors towards Net-Zero by 2050. He holds a PhD in economics from the University of Flensburg in Germany.

Dr. Teske research covers technical input for National Determined Contribution Reports (NDC) for developing countries and Net-Zero 1.5˚C Paris aligned decarbonization pathways, with a focus on renewable energy-based energy concepts required to achieve the Paris Climate Agreement for countries, regions, urban environments, megacities and microgrids for islands. This includes technical analysis of power grids regarding integration of solar electricity, onshore and offshore wind power generation and electricity and heat storage systems. Furthermore, Dr Teske has 30 years’ experience in renewable energy market and policy analysis. as well as solar and on- and offshore wind power grid integration concepts in public grids.

In September 2023, Teske and his team published detailed decarbonization pathways for all G20 member countries including individual carbon budgets by country and industry sector to limit global temperature rise to 1.5˚C with 60% likelihood. In August 2022, he published the book ‘Achieving the Paris Climate Agreement Goals -Part 2: Science-based Target Setting for the Finance industry - Net-Zero Sectoral 1.5˚ C Pathways for Real Economy Sectors’, as a lead author at Springer (publisher). The book is the sequel to the highly successful book ‘Achieving the Paris Climate Agreement Goals - Global and Regional 100% Renewable Energy Scenarios with Non-energy GHG Pathways for +1.5°C and +2°C’, which achieved more than 390,000-chapter downloads between February 2019 and December 2023.
